Pied Kingfisher with fish, Okavango Delta

The Pied Kingfisher is a common species in the delta and can often be seen (but rarely photographed well) hovering over waterways.    On the balcony of my lodgings,  overlooking the Savuti Channel,  in Botswana’s Okavango Delta,  I sat with the camera and 500mm telephoto lens mounted on a gimbel head and tripod and waited.    It wasn’t too long before this bird alighted with his prize,  on a fallen tree branch at the water’s edge.
