Glossy Starling, Okavango Delta, Botswana

The glossy starling, or Cape Glossy Starling,  is a very common sight in the Okavango Delta region of Botswana.  This particular bird was photographed from the balcony of my lodgings.    In full sunlight the bird has iridescent blue-green colouring to its feathers,  the colours seem to change dependant on the angle of the sun.

In this case, the bird was in shade with only its eye and the edge of its head and bill lit giving the impression of a glowing golden eye amidst a silhouette.    The image has had very little post-processing,  the effect is due to the lighting angle alone.
