Jungle Cat, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, India.

Photographed in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in India,  the Jungle Cat can be difficult to see as it moves through brush.   In this instance the cat emerged momentarily into a clearing allowing for the photograph.   This is one of three sub-species of Jungle Cat and has a fairly extensive range across India and neighbouring countries.  The species is not considered to be endangered and there has been a ban on them being hunted since the late 1970s. Snow Leopard, Ladakh, India

As alluded to in a previous blog post, today’s post relates to the Snow Leopards of Ladakh, India. My journey to the region in February, 2023, was primarily to seek out, and photograph,  the elusive snow leopard.   This animal has an almost mythical reputation, “always present, rarely sighted”.   As the apex predator of this mountainous region, individuals range over large areas in search of prey, notably Urials and Ibex.   Both predator and prey are superbly adapted to […]

Ladakh wildlife in Winter

Gentoo Penguins, Weddell Island

Gentoos are quite a successful species. Whereas the range for some penguin species has shrunk in recent years, the range for Gentoos has actually extended with them displacing other species in some locations.

when photographing a penguin colony, it’s worth looking around the edges of the group to try and isolate an individual.
