Waimea Canyon, Kaua’i.

Waimea is a name that keeps cropping up in the Hawaiian Islands,  there seems to be a town of Waimea on each of the major islands,  waterfalls named Waimea,  beaches named Waimea and on the island of Kaua’i an impressive canyon of that name.    13 miles long and 2500 feet deep with the,  wait for it,  Waimea River,  following through it,  several excellent canyon overlooks are easily accessed by vehicle.

Stitched Panorama

Today’s image is a six-frame stitched panorama, the 6 original frames being in vertical format and taken at 24mm. The final stitched image ended up being about 12000 pixels wide or would make up a 1 metre long high-resolution print without interpolation. The people on the right edge of the frame give some idea of the foreground scale. To get an idea of the breadth of the canyon, you may notice a small dark spot in the sky towards the top left corner of the image. No, it’s not a dust spot, it’s actually a helicopter that was flying over the canyon at the time.
