Red-footed booby on nest Midway Atoll

Same image,  two versions.   A red-footed booby sits on a nest of twigs,  Eastern Island,  Midway Atoll.    In the colour version,  I enhanced the blues and yellows very slightly and warmed the image slightly as well.    As for the monochrome version,  I gave it a slight toning in Lightroom’s split toning module.   Hue at 40 points and saturation at 10 points for both shadows and highlights.

Generally speaking,  it’s good to get an uncluttered background to best show off the bird,  but in this case,  the background is really chaotic with gnarly tree branches twisting in all directions.   So be it.  As a noted nature photographer once observed,  “nature is messy” and this is nature,  not a zoo nor other controlled environment.
