Waimea Canyon, Kaua'i, offers some spectacular panoramic images.Read More
Waimea is a name that keeps cropping up in the Hawaiian Islands, there seems to be a town of Waimea on each of the major islands, waterfalls named Waimea, beaches named Waimea and on the island of Kaua’i an impressive canyon of that name. 13 miles long and 2500 feet deep with the, wait for it, Waimea River, following through it, several excellent canyon overlooks are easily accessed by vehicle.
Today’s image is a six frame stitched panorama, the 6 original frames being in vertical format and taken at 24mm. The final stitched image ended up being about 12000 pixels wide or would make up a 1 metre long high resolution print without interpolation. The people on the right edge of the frame give some idea of the foreground scale. To get an idea of the breadth of the canyon, you may notice a small dark spot in the sky towards the top left corner of the image. No it’s not a dust spot, it’s actually a helicopter which was flying over the canyon at the time.
It’s still early days so far as my involvement with Google + goes, but my impression so far is that it has a lot to offer. The concept of gathering friends and other contacts into “circles” is an interesting one. Also the display of photographs is pretty good, certainly superior to Facebook or Twitter. Plenty of interesting photographers and other graphic artists to explore there too. If you haven’t already done so, please check out My Google Plus page and if you like what you see, then join me won’t you? (and let me know what you’re doing there at the same time!) At this point I’m trying to make a point of posting different images on each system (Facebook & Google +) so that if someone is subscribed to both, they’re not getting the same stuff over and over. ~KD
