The Galapagos giant tortoise, is the world's largest living tortoise and has 10 sub species surviving in the wild distributed on 7 of the Galapagos Islands. This specimen was photographed on Santa Cruz Island.
There is considerable evolutionary diversity between the sub species as they have adapted over the millennia to the conditions which are specific to the individual islands. Slow moving, of course, they have a very acute sense of smell!
