Calling out to the morning

Look behind you!

No, I haven’t reverted to my childhood, this isn’t a pantomime. 🙂 This photo was taken early morning whilst on safari in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and illustrates the value of looking over your shoulder when taking wildlife photos.

We were stopped looking at a herd of elephants alongside the track and were taking numerous shots of them as there was some good interaction going on within the herd, some interesting behaviour.    During a brief lull in activity, I thought to look over my shoulder in the opposite direction and saw this small songbird perched on a twig and calling out as loudly as he could.

I confess I don’t know what species it is and he was only small in frame, both due to his small actual size and also because he wasn’t as close as I would have liked.   Even at 700mm, he is very much a small bird in a large landscape.
