Looking through my photos from Haridwar, India earlier this year, when I recalled this shot of a woman carrying her belongings on her head. Haridwar was the scene of the Kumbh Mela festival this year which attracted millions of people, but in this photo I endeavoured to isolate one person within the frame. This was only partly successful as you will see when you mouseover to the original image. Look carefully, there is a man walking away from the camera and obscured by the bushes on the left edge of the frame. I decided to crop the image to show the woman larger in frame and slightly off centre.
In the end, I’m not sure which image I prefer, as the original has quite a nice framing of the subject due to the surrounding tree leaves and branches. There is also the question of whether to show all or part of the woman’s shadow? I’d be interested to hear readers views.
