For any visitor to Honolulu,  a visit to Iolani Palace is really a must.   Formerly the official residence of the Hawaiian Royalty,  it is today preserved as an important part of Hawaiian history and is open to the public. Building of the palace was commenced in 1879 and by 1882 it was being used for [...]

From time to time,  I like to present images as wallpapers or screen-savers for interested readers.   I realized that I’ve been neglecting that recently and so I’ve prepared “The Blue Door, Haridwar” as a wallpaper image.  It’s available in a choice of screen resolutions via the downloads page on my main site for those who may [...]

Quwwatul-Islam (might of Islam) Masjid is part of a complex of mosques,  cloisters and courtyards built in what is now Delhi between the 12th and 14th centuries.  Today’s image shows the ceiling details in part of the complex,  the observant reader might note that this image has also been cropped to panoramic format and is [...]

April,  2010,  during my trip to India,  we were exploring Old Delhi when invited into a small mosque.   The mosque wasn’t actually visible from the street being situated one floor above street level and accessed by a stairway.   Although small,  the exterior contained some beautiful detail. At Prayer,  Delhi, India.

The city of Xian In China is best known for its amazing terracotta warriors,  however there are other interesting things to see there including the bell tower (zhonglou), pictured here, in the city centre.   Built in the late 14th century,  it was relocated/rebuilt in its current location in the early 1700s.    As you can see,  [...]

Continuing to retrace my steps through China,  among the places visited was the Northern Pagoda in Suzhou.   The pagoda dates from the 17th century and offers some good views over the city.  It’s part of a temple complex dating back 1700 years, parts of the complex have been destroyed or damaged and rebuilt numerous times [...]

My Latin America trip in 2005 took me through the Yucatan Peninsula region of Mexico,  Guatemala,  Belize and on to the Galapagos Islands.   Travelling into the Galapagos necessitated going through Quito,  I stayed in the Ecuadorian capital for a couple of nights before the flight into the islands.   Whilst there I took a wander around [...]

Looking back again to my Latin America trip of 2005,  this shot was taken in a small town in Guatemala and gives perhaps a different take on the “graveyard around a church” theme.   You can see that the church would once have been an imposing structure but now is a ruin,  the interior and roof [...]

Another shot from the Latin America trip.   I’ll leave it to the Spanish speakers among you to interpret the signage!   I liked the geometry that’s happening in this scene,  three doors,  three windows, three balconies all of them blue but all of them slightly different.   Generally as part of the digital processing of images I’ll [...]

Still going through the Latin America shots.   Today’s image is of the town of Antigua, Guatemala, not far from several volcanoes including Pacaya which I published photos of recently.   The town has many old buildings and cobblestone streets,  some of which have hardly changed in hundreds of years.  I’ve included this image as I like [...]
